Machine manufacturer receives top rating

Rammingen near Ulm, 19 Jan. 2012

The recently submitted year end financial report for 2010 certifies the machine manufacturer Wiedenmann not only an outstanding course of business in difficult times, the top rating of the world's largest business reporting agency also confirms how well the Swabians are performing with their compact tractor accessory equipment for professional turf care, dirt removal, and winter service.

The prominent agency Dun & Bradstreet only grants a rating of "1" to companies with first-rate economic strength. The distinction awarded by this American firm, whose 8,000 employees examine the economic status of millions of companies, is not really surprising for the manufacturer; the family enterprise has prospered ever since the company's founding in 1964. Wiedenmann has also managed to master the latest global economic crisis with convincingly black numbers. However, the still faltering world economy is reflected in the 2011 sales volume, which at 37 million euros tops that of the previous year, but is nevertheless below expectations.

Because of its high export share of 75 percent, Wiedenmann is very sensitive to economic distortions in the international economy. "The reactor catastrophe in Japan has also reduced the demand for golf course maintenance equipment", Jürgen Wiedenmann cites as an example. With his brothers Horst and Uwe, the managing shareholders therefore compensated for the drop by increasing sales of winter service equipment, and quite successfully so. In this sector the sales volume shot up by 35 percent. Leading new technological developments such as the repeatedly awarded rake blades of the Snow Master 3850 and 3900 product line for compact tractors have contributed to this boom.

The product programme of the company consists of about 120 machine types marketed on all continents. The markets in France and the USA have developed gratifyingly with a demand plus of ten percent. Customers everywhere tend to be sports facility operators and green surface maintenance operations, including many that are publicly owned. They appreciate the high productivity of the equipment and the fact that Wiedenmann counts among the world's best. The robustness and long life of these machines is confirmed by the low guarantee rate, which factory data shows was some 35 percent below the competition's in 2011. But "Made in Germany" can also have its disadvantages: Wiedenmann's spare parts sales volume has declined. This is actually good news for the customers.

Whenever possible, Wiedenmann lets its 240 employees participate in the business success at the factory sites in Rammingen, Germany and Beled, Hungary. In 2011 the staff was able to enjoy expanded company retirement benefits and a success premium. With investments of 1.4 million euros at various sites, Wiedenmann has already decided that the 2012 business year shall also be positive. Larger investments will then be carried out in Rammingen.
